Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) chairperson Liza Diño-Seguerra has aired sentiments over Rappler article about Malacañang prohibiting private media from covering a government event written by Pia Ranada Robles.
On Facebook, Liza Diño-Seguerra aired her sentiments, “Strike two na Pia Ranada of Rappler. Ikaw din yung nagsulat ng tungkol sa hindi pagdating ng presidente sa interview ni Kris Aquino. And I quote…”Talk about freedom of information” —-wow, news? THIS IS NOT NEWS. Opinion mo ‘to.”
She also asked, “When did Rappler start resorting to this kind of reporting? I used to love you guys. I have so much respect for Maria Ressa. What happened?”
Liza further explained why inviting private media will not be compulsory anymore, “This is precisely the reason why optional na ngayon mag-imbita ng “private media”. You just gave the palace more reason to really limit disseminating information to you. It’s so easy for you twist your stories to suit your own perspective. Nagtataka pa kayo? Talk about balanced, unbiased reporting. Tsk tsk.”
When asked by a follower Arvs de Villa: “Isn’t it news to point out the irony in the event? Freedom of information but only to certain parties.”
Liza replied: “Not inviting private media sa presscon doesnt mean walang TRANSPARENCY. Siguro iniiwasan lang ngayon ang misinformation given the circumstance of news being spun to favor their own perspective. But look at this article. Damn if you do, damn if you dont! So what now? Tayo bilang mamamayan, what does this leave us with? Lahat opinion? Lahat ng report may leanings? Lahat biased? San ang tunay na journalism?”
