Despite the rampant piracy this movie, KathNiel’s “Barcelona: A Love Untold” still managed to rake big in the box office.
“Barcelona: A Love Untold” opened on September 14 (Wednesday) in cinemas nationwide with ₱23,000, 000 box office gross. From 240 cinemas on its opening day, additional 80 cinemas were added to accommodate more Pinoy moviegoers for the weekend. And as of September 25, the movie has already breached the ₱200M mark and the earnings are still counting until now on its fourth week.
Based on what we have heard, “Barcelona: A Love Untold” now holds the title of this year’s highest grossing film and is expected to close in cinemas with over ₱250M gross (locally). Just yesterday, Star Cinema executive Roxy Liquigan announced that the KathNiel movie has already breached the ₱300M mark globally.
Next to KathNiel movie with highest gross was the Angel Locsin-Vilma Santos starrer film “Everything About Her” with an estimated ₱250M (global gross). The Jennylyn Mercado and John Lloyd Cruz’s first team-up came third with an estimated total gross of ₱220M while on the fourth was Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza’s first movie together titled “Imagine You & Me” with an estimated gross of ₱140M.
All the rest of the movies screened this year failed to pass the ₱100M mark.
It’s still October, there will still be plenty of movie to be screened nationwide. Let’s see if these movies will be able to beat KathNiel’s gross for this year.
