The legend of Robin Hood is firmly entrenched in British folklore — an archer and swordsman who, with his band of merry men, robbed from the rich and gave to the poor during the early 12th century in Nottinghamshire’s Sherwood Forest.
Robin Hood first became a movie star in 1908 with two short films, an American one-reel short called Robin Hood (from the Kalem production companty) and a British short Robin Hood and His Merry Men (from the Claredon company). And by 1914, there were several Robin Hood films, and that’s not counting his appearances as Locksley in adaptations of Ivanhoe.
In the Philippines, the ‘Robin Hood’inspired movies started in 1965 with Chiquito on the title role of “Titong Robin Hood.” On the next pages are the other ‘Robin Hood’ inspired movies and teleseryes including the latest and controversial adaptation titled “Alyas Robin Hood.”
According to Kapuso Headwriter Suzette Doctolero, ‘Robin Hood’ is not a franchise owned by anyone, it’s in a public domain.
