“Encantadia” director Mark Reyes has admitted they have yet to beat rival show “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.”
In an interview with PEP.ph, Reyes confessed they still haven’t surpass the ratings of the Kapamilya action drama teleserye which starred Coco Martin but remained satisfied with how they are faring.
“We have not beaten Ang Probinsyano in the national [ratings] which is including Visayas and Mindanao but in Mega Manila ratings and in Luzon, if I’m not mistaken, we’re doing very well”, Reyes said.
Since the start, “Encantadia” has been lagging in the ratings war against “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano”. In Kantar Media survey which covered national households, “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” leads wide gap against “Encantadia”.
Meanwhile for Mega Manila and Urban Luzon, Reyes is correct that they are doing well since the gap between the rival shows are not that far. “Encantadia” in fact has led “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” in two instances; their pilot episode and last Friday August 12.

Ratings is one of the most important factors considered by a network if there are changes that need to be done in a show. And according to Reyes that is also their indicator in “Encantadia”.
But he is also quick to stress that changes is not done abruptly because it needs careful study. He said it’s not because they lose in the ratings for one or two days and they will immediately react and do changes. It has to be studied carefully to see what the audience want.
He also added that “Encantadia” has a set story and the basic rule it to stick out with the planned story but if there are things that aren’t working or not helping to capture the viewers attention then that’s a signal that there should be changes that need to be addressed.
“Since, you know, Encantadia has a set story, we follow the basic story that we planned out but definitely, it’s just logical that if something’s not working, we change it. Definitely, meron yun,” he said.
