Last Sunday (August 6), Dolphins were spotted swimming by the Dragonboat racers during their morning training in Manila Bay. The video was shared by Geannie Chris on her Instagram account and captioned it with, “Unusual sight early this morning during our dragonboat training.
If only we have a clean and garbage-free Manila Bay, maybe.. just maybe we can see them everyday.”
The uploader also urged fellow Filipinos “act to have a clean and safe water Manila Bay.”

In 2009, over 200 dolphins were spotted in the shallow waters of Manila Bay. With the help of hundreds of volunteers and fishermen, the dolphins were drove back to deep seas by clapping their hands and hitting the surface to drive the dolphins away. The unusual occurrence may have been triggered by a sea quake that could have damaged the dolphins’ eardrums and disoriented them said Malcolm Sarmiento in an interview, director of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.
