After receiving complaints from several netizens, and a summon from the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) over the ‘victim-blaming’ issue on the “Eat Bulaga” episode aired on July 9, comedian-host and Senator Tito Sotto finally was able to react on the issue.
In a text message sent to Rappler, the senator said, “Watch [the] episode. Some netizens who commented did not even watch it. It was a simple reaction saying that a married lady should not be out at night having shots (or drinking) with men other than her husband. Talagang mapapagbintangan ka.”
“That’s [the] context. What’s wrong with that?” he added.
When asked about MTRCB’s summon, he thanks Rappler for the heads up and said, “Anyway, it’s a welcome development if MTRCB looks into [the] matter. They will see that I was merely moralizing for the protection of [the] institution of marriage.”
