An estimated number of 400 supporters of Senator Ferdinand ”Bongbong” Marcos Jr. trooped to Rizal Park on Wednesday (May 11) afternoon to protest the sudden rise of administration candidate Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo in the vice-presidential race.
Wearing red shirts, the Rizal Park gathering of Bongbong Marcos supporters started with social media enthusiasts who posted an announcement in Facebook, and soon spread to students and housewives and workers in Metro Manila. The post received more than 6,000 likes and more than 17,000 shares on Facebook.
Massed under a tree near Burnham Green, a few meters from Quirino Grandstand, these supporters attempted to mount streamers and banners at the Luneta park, but they were initially barred by security officers from staging a rally. They were given a permit to stay in the park grounds until 8 p.m.
