Interviewed after the campaign rally of Team Duterte-Cayetano in Bacolod City, the Presidential aspirant’s daughter Sara Duterte said she was raped a long time ago and she did not tell anyone about it, especially her parents. She did not give details about the incident, saying it’s immaterial and did not hinder her development as a person.
Sara’s revelation came after her father made controversial statements about Australian missionary Jacqueline Hamill, who was raped and murdered during a hostake-taking incident at the Davao Penal Colony in 1989.
Inquirer was able to ask the Davao City Mayor regarding his reaction os Sara’s revelation in an ambush interview at the University of the Philippines Visayas in Iloilo where he spoke at a forum. The Davao City Mayor answered that does not believe that his daughter was raped. “Hindi ma rape ‘yan si Inday, nagdadala ng baril’ yan (Inday can’t be raped. She carries a gun).”
Duterte said he had no previous knowledge of his daughter’s claim. He said he did not want to comment further because it was personal matter for his daughter. But during his speech, he again expressed doubt about her statement, calling Sara a “drama queen” in jest.
