(8) Kris Aquino, The Philippines’ Queen of Talk
Kris Aquino has gone so far from her initial television appearance in Inday Badiday’s ‘See-True’ run in GMA Network. Ironically, Kris Aquino seems to have surpassed or have taken the place of Lourdes “Inday Badiday” Jimenez Carvajal who was back then the Philippine television’s “Queen of Showbiz Talk Shows” and “Queen of Intrigues”.
Kris Aquino shifted her sights to a career on television when her movie career in the 90’s started slowing down. Kris relaunched reintroduced herself as a talk show host and gossiper with the launching of ‘Kris’ which was produced by Viva Television and ran on PTV Channel 4. The talk show ‘Kris’ was later transferred to GMA Network. Once in GMA Network, the former talk show was cancelled and replaced by the showbiz oriented talk show Startalk wherein she first worked and she co-hosted with Boy Abunda and Lolit Solis.
Kris later went back to ABS-CBN, where she was offered a contract with ‘Today with Kris Aquino’ after GMA and Viva dropped her. From there on out, she started making a name on herself in ABS-CBN with some includes morning talk show ‘Morning Girls with Kris and Korina’ alongside popular broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez; weekend showbiz oriented talkshow ‘The Buzz’ which reunites her with Boy Abunda; another morning and lifestyle show with Boy with ‘Boy & Kris,’ primetime entertainment ‘news’ show ‘SNN: Showbiz News Ngayon,’ and ‘Aquino & Abunda Tonight.’ Her last recent lifestyle and talk show was the morning show ‘Kris TV’.
(9) Kris Aquino alongside Ai-Ai delas Alas and Vice Ganda in Sisterakas
Kris Aquino is mainly known for her massacre and horror films, but no one can deny that she is also a very entertaining (and at times hilarious) host. So if there is something that one can look back as a highlight of her career, one on the list would definitely include the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival entry, ‘Sisterakas’.
Kris Aquino basically plays her over-the-top self in “Sisterakas” along with Vice Ganda and Ai-Ai delas Alas, who by themselves alone can turn any film into box office success.
If ever Kris Aquino does indeed live up to her statement, then “Sisterakas”, “Pido Dida” series, and “Magic to Win” are the only notable films that she did outside the usual dark and foreboding films that most Filipino movie going audience usually saw herself in.
