Gerald Anderson recently announced that he will be launching a foundation on his birthday, March 7. The actor is proud to put up the Gerald Anderson Foundation’s K9 Search & Rescue unit, which will focus on searching for missing persons especially during calamities.
The foundation was borne out of Gerald’s need to extend more help to people who are severely affected by calamities. In an interview with PUSH, the actor said that he has always done his part in ABS-CBN’s efforts to help victims of disasters.
“Pumunta kami ng Tacloban with my friends pero may kulang, parang laging may mga puwede pa akong gawin and ito na yun.” (I went to Tacloban with my friends but I felt there was something lacking, I always felt like I could do something more and this is it.)
The search and rescue unit put up by Gerald have four highly trained dogs as of the moment, including his German Shepherd named Fredo. He said that together with his younger brother Ken, they started building the team since last year. Right now, all expenses for the foundation comes out of Gerald’s pocket. And since buying and maintaining highly trained dogs doesn’t come cheap, Gerald hopes to get more funding from donors and sponsors once the foundation is formally launched.
Gerald said that his foundation will help missing people in general, not only during times of calamities. He is willing to offer the services of the foundation to anyone who needs help in locating missing persons. He said dogs are amazing when it comes to search and how much they love people.
