The Instagram post that featured a photo of the boxer-politician with his wife Jinkee earned more than 18,000 likes before it was deleted at around 3:00 A.M. today. The post was only available for two hours.
The whole Manny Pacquiao fiasco is seemingly going out of hand, but is some way this is good. Good in a sense that people have started paying attention and engaged in critical discussion about politics, religion, and the plight of the minority; in this case the plight of The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community.
Who would have known that it would only take an influential personality’s conservative and religious stand on a ‘sensitive’ issue to make society and politics pay attention. To make people evaluate their perspective on issues which have always been set aside. To take a closer look on the source of the truth that seems absolute and if this really is the only ‘truth’ out there.
To ask the questions that people seems too afraid to ask – questions like “Why does it feels like the source of such ‘absolute’ truth is dehumanizing and demeaning to those that do not strictly adhere to it when reality and nature seemingly state otherwise?”.
To engage on discussion on the various interpretation of the source of this ‘truth’ and why is that there are many and usually conflicting interpretations across different denominations claiming their own interpretation of the ‘truth’; that if it is truly an ‘objective truth’, then why are there clashing views on it? Why does it have to intervene or influence how society and government works? Why does Manny Pacquiao along with similar minded individuals who came to his support believe without batting an eye that Bible and God condemns homosexuality and is worthy of being put to death; even consider that they are worse than animals?
