The 90-day campaign period for the 2016 Philippine national elections started on February 9, 2016 which only means a much more aggressive campaigning for political parties and candidates of the 2016 elections.
Previously, campaigns include various performances from entertainers and celebrities. The latter are usually paid to endorse candidates, so the mere presence of celebrities in a political rally may not reflect their true opinion or support for the said politicians. Even so, political parties hire celebrities for their mere presence, star power, and influence. They help attract voters and keep them entertained.
Most local celebrities stay neutral and are not involved in politics since this could have a negative impact on their careers. They could lose fans and supporters who have different political views. Although that seems to be the safest route to take, celebrities are still part of the voting populace.
They have every right to speak their mind unless they are contracted to do otherwise. Some are fully aware of their influence and will use this to support the political candidate they believe will help the country.
This list shows Filipino celebrities have openly announced their support for political candidates running in the 2016 national elections.
