The Box Office Entertainment Awards also known as the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation (GMMSF) Box-Office Entertainment Awards is a yearly awarding ceremony, which aims to honor stars and performers for their popularity and commercial success in the Philippine Entertainment industry, this is disregarding whether they are very good or not in their own fields.
Leading this year’s line-up of winners are John Lloyd Cruz, Bea Alonzo, Vice Ganda, Coco Martin, Vic Sotto, Ai-Ai delas Alas, and the AlDub loveteam of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza, as reported in an article for Pep.ph by Nora V. Calderon published last February 21, 2016.
The GMMSF board chose the highest-grossing films last 2015 based on the total average rankings and published results because MMFF failed to release an official gross receipts of the films that joined the festival.
In their official deliberation which was held in Barrio Fiesta Edsa, Greenhills last February 20, 2016, they have decided to again, give the award to the movie that gathered the highest box office gross for 2015.
Two of the films gathered the highest box-office returns for 2015 : the movies “A Second Chance” by Star Cinema with P556 million and “The Beauty and The Bestie” by Star Cinema/Viva Films with P526 million respectively.
“My Bebe Love, Kilig Pa More” got the 3rd Top Gross with P385 million, that’s the reason they gave the Box-Office King and Queen to Vic Sotto and Ai-Aid delas Alas.
They are also giving out three new categories – ‘Breakthrough Male and Female Star of Philippine Movies and TV’, and ‘Breakthrough Recording/Performing Artist’.
Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza will receive the ‘Breakthrough Male and Female Star of Philippine Movies and TV.’
The GMMSF further clarified that this is the first time that an actor and an actress have made a breakthrough achievements in multi-media : in movie “My Bebe Love”; on TV “Eat Bulaga! Kalyeserye” segment and the special show they had which is “Tamang Panahon” which got the record-breaking 55% rating plus the SRO live shows in Metro Manila and in the provinces; and the more than 25 product endorsements they did in the last six months.
Alden will also receive the ‘Breakthrough Recording/Performing Artist because of his “Wish I May Album” from GMA Records which got a gold status even though it was not released yet, and after two-weeks of its released, became Platinum and as of this writing, it is already triple platinum.
It will be a star-studded awards night because many stars and love teams were also given recognition and awards, aside from AlDub.
The KathNiel, Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo won the ‘Prince and Princess of Philippine Movies.’
On the other hand, JaDine of James Reid and Nadine Lustre got the “Prince and Princess of Philippine Television”, while LizQuen of Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano bagged the “Most Popular Love Team of Movies and TV.”
The 47th Box Office Entertainment Awards of Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation (GMMSF) will be held at the Kia Theater in Araneta Center, Quezon City on April 17, 2016.
