Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach is coming home on Saturday, January 23, 2016. Her schedule will be full until January 28, 2016.
She will be conferred with the Congressional Medal of Distinction, the highest honor for an exemplary individual for being crowned Miss Universe. She is the third Filipina to receive that honor. It has been 41 years since a Filipina won the crown. The first was Gloria Diaz in 1969 and the second was Margarita Moran in 1973.
In an interview with Speaker Feliciano “Sonny” Belmonte Jr. last December, Manila Bulletin reported that the Lower Chamber will adopt a resolution conferring a congressional award to the 26-year-old Filipina-German actress and model.
The honor that Wurtzbach brought to the country has been welcomed by many Filipinos who await her triumphant homecoming. By bringing a great sense of pride to all of us, Wurztbach deserves a grand welcome from us.
