GMA Network proved that it is the leading TV station nationwide based on 2015 ratings. this was reported by Manila Bulletin Online as early as May 2015 based on the ratings data provided by the industry’s most trusted ratings service provider, Nielsen TV Audience Measurements.
Recently, Nielsen released the 2015 NUTAM (National Television Audience Measurement) household shares (covering December 27 to 31, 2015 based on overnight data).
GMA Network headed the other networks in total day ratings with 35.4%, overtaking ABS-CBN (34.9%), and TV5 (9.2%). Last September 2015, GMA overtook its closest rival ABS-CBN in NUTAM, and since then has become the leader in nationwide ratings.
The 2015 full year data showed that GMA remains the No. 1 TV network in viewer rich Urban Luzon and Mega Manila and reigned supreme across all dayparts, primetime included. Urban Luzon gathered 77 percent of all urban TV households in the country, while 59 percent represents Mega Manila.
Urban Luzon remains a solid area for GMA Network as it registered 39.7%, outperforming ABS-CBN’s 30.6% by 9.1 points and TV5’s 8.2% by 31.5 points. GMA Network further captured its dominant position in its bailiwick Mega Manila with 41.7%, up by 14.7 points from the 27% of ABS-CBN and up 33.2 points from TV5’s 8.5%.
Urban Luzon and Mega Manila’s list of top programs for 2015 was also headed by GMA Network with “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho (KMJS) dominating the list of the Kapuso shows in both areas, and it is also the top Kapuso program in NUTAM.
Among the top performing TV programs of GMA last year are Eat Bulaga, Marimar, Magpakailanman, Sunday Pinasaya, Strawberry Lane, Pepito Manaloto, and Little Nanay. Also included on the list are The Half Sisters, 24 Oras, Because of You, Ismil Family, Pari ‘Koy, Once Upon a kiss, Empress Ki, Beautiful Strangers, Celebrity Buff, Hiram na Alaala, More Than Words, Karelasyon, and Second Chances.
GMA Network recorded a stronger total day lead in December 2015, with 38.9 percent in NUTAM, outscoring ABS-CBN’s 33.6% by 5.3 points, and TV5’s 7.8% by 3.1 points.
More viewers in the country tuned in to the Kapuso channel during the Christmas season break (covering December 24 to 31, 2016) as shown by its 38.4 percent audience share, higher than ABS-CBN’s 32.5% by 5.9 points. Moreover, GMA’s countdown to 2016 was the most watched New Year countdown by urban viewers.
Nielsen’s NUTAM is the leading ratings service provider, boasting a total of 31 clients and subscribers, including eight local and TV Networks, four regional clients, two blocktimes, and 17 media agencies.
