Maja Salvador recently had a Twitter session with her fans, something which she does every now and then.
With 1.65 million followers, Maja was showered with a variety of questions, ranging from food preferences to her leading men and to her present teleserye “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” on ABS-CBN Primetime Bida.
But amongst the hundreds of questions and comments sent to her in the #tanongkaymaja thread, one follower named @prettycathiced tweeted about wanting to see Maja as the new Darna.
The Kapamilya actress singled that out and readily answered that Angel Locsin is her only Darna and even added a “Sowee (Sorry)” in her tweet.
Maja’s answer about her preference for Angel Locsin as “Darna” elicited praises from her followers and gained her more admirers. Fans of Angel have commented that they love the fact that Maja wants Angel to play the role of the iconic super heroine.
Angel Locsin was supposed to be “Darna” in the newest movie version of the heroine and was in fact training for the role. But her recurring back injury worsened, prompting the management of ABS-CBN Network and Star Cinema to pull her out of the project. It was a mutual decision nevertheless, as Angel felt the paralyzing effects of her disc bulge and had to undergo surgery in December 2015.
The Darna role vacated by Angel had a lot of candidates which fans from different camps have suggested. The names of ABS-CBN Network actresses have been floated including Nadine Lustre, Liza Soberano, Kathryn Bernardo, Jessy Mendiola, and of course, Maja Salvador.
So far, there has been no announcement from ABS-CBN Network as to who will play Darna in the upcoming movie.
With Maja saying that Angel Locsin is still her preferred “Darna,” that means Angel clothed as “Darna” is still foremost in the minds of a lot of people. It may take quite a while before Darna can be dissociated from Angel. Until such time that ABS-CBN Network comes with a decision, speculations and suggestions will continue regarding the role of “Darna.”
