It has been almost a week since the open letter to Director Cathy Garcia-Molina posted by talent Rossellyn Domingo on Facebook has gone viral on social media. Yet, the issue is still a very hot topic online. The allegedly rude behavior of Director Cathy towards Rossellyn and her boyfriend Alvin Campomanes has netizens taking sides. Even Rosanna Roces has come out with her piece, taking the side of Molina.
Now, producer-director Christopher Ad Castillo, the son of the legendary Director Celso Ad Castillo, has also aired his views on the verbal abuse issue about Director Cathy.
In a Facebook post yesterday, Director Christopher very well explained the importance of extras and stunt people. Director Christopher mentioned his dad and what he learned from him. He said that it was his dad who taught him to respect the crew as they are the invisible backbone of the film industry.
Director Christoper wrote how he is when he is around the extras. He eats and talks with them. Why? Because those people act not only for money, but because they love what they are doing. Commenters have been quoting some of lines on his lengthy post. The crowd favorite is “To pick on defenseless people is cowardice. And there’s no justification whatsoever for that.”
Some commenters agreed with Director Christopher’s views. They, too, believe that no director should look down on the extras because they are already underpaid and most of all, the extras are not the directors’ servants, the directors don’t own the extras. Just like celebrities, the extras are humans, too. Same with Director Christopher, they also believe that extras deserve to be treated with respect, too.
