The Philippines is considered as one of the most gay-friendly countries in the world. In fact, the country ranked 10th among 17 countries that had majority of their populations accepting homosexuality in a global survey done by Pew Research Center in 2013.
The survey showed wide acceptance of homosexuals in the Philippines, which is quite rare for a country with a high level of religiosity and high incidence of poverty.
Thus, it is not surprising that in our culture and arts, ‘Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender’ or LGBT-themes abound. But in this article, let’s focus on tv shows and films that have made an impact on the nation’s consciousness and mirrored the reality, if not the aspirations of the LGBT community.
