Maine Mendoza (aka Yaya Dub) is a “natural” , according to Vic Sotto, lead star of MMFF entry “My Bebe Love: #KiligPaMore”.
In the press conference of the romantic-comedy film, Vic Sotto said that the movie producers initially thought of letting Maine take up acting workshops prior to the shooting. But Vic followed the advice of TAPE and APT President and CEO Antonio Tuviera who said that it’s ok if “KalyeSerye’s” Yaya Dub does not undergo workshops yet.
According to Abante, Vic said they believe Maine has a natural flair for acting. So they wanted to see what will happen if they let her be “organic”, without “preservatives”. He said, “Kumbaga sa pagkain, gusto namin, organic. Walang preservatives.” (Just like food, we want organic. Without preservatives)
An avowed introvert, Maine acts out a very hyper Yaya Dub in ‘KalyeSerye’. But her unscripted reactions which are mirrored in her facial expressions and in her dialogues show a rawness that is quite refreshing for an actress. And that is her appeal, that’s what drew the masses to her, that’s the “organic” that Vic is talking about.
Unlike her role as Yaya Dub in ‘KalyeSerye’ though, movie goers will see a different Maine in the film. She will play the role of Anna, the daughter of Vic, who will take a liking to Dondi (Alden Richards). Ai-Ai delas Alas plays the role of Dondi’s auntie.
Like any new beginner in showbiz, Maine was understably nervous during her first day of shooting for the film. Although she has interacted with Vic on split-screen, she never really had the chance to act with him in person.
In her interview with “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho”, Maine admitted that she was intimidated especially during the first time she acted in a scene with Vic. “Hindi ko alam kung pano ako mag a- act in front of him.” (I don’t know how I will act in front of him). But eventually, she said it turned out fine, it was Vic who guided her during the shooting.
A veteran comedian like Vic would make anybody quite jittery, but after a couple of takes, Maine started to get comfortable in front of the camera, according to Vic. He is proud to say that Maine, the actress, will be seen on the big screen come Dec. 25.
Everyone’s excited to see “My Bebe Love:#KiligPaMore”. Who wouldn’t? That’s a Vic and Ai Ai movie, and the first-ever movie of the phenomenal AlDub love team.
