Claudine Barretto recently posted on her Instagram (IG) account, an old handwritten love letter of Rico Yan, her former reel to real partner during the late 1990s.
The letter was not dated but it indicates that it was left for Claudine to read before he went on a trip to Cagayan de Oro (CDO).
Rico wrote:”To my hunny, By the time you read this, I must be in CDO already. Just want to thank you for last night. You were wonderful! And because of that, I’m sure I’m gonna have a hard time sleeping without you by my side tonight. But nevertheless, I still love you very much! MWAH!!-Rico.”
The post went viral, getting more than 33900 likes and over 2577 comments as of this writing.
The letter showed the early stages of intimacy between Claudine and Rico, who were a power couple during the 90s. Claudine and Rico were famous as partners in their prime time tv dramas “Mula Sa Puso” and “Saan ka Man Naroroon” and in their films “Dahil Mahal na Mahal Kita” and “Got 2 Believe”.
But more than that, the letter brings back memories of how Rico’s sudden death on March 29, 2002 at age 27, shocked the whole nation and moreso, devastated Claudine.
If commenters on Claudine’s IG post became emotional when they saw Rico’s old love letter, we cannot imagine just how Claudine felt when she saw his letter again. Her caption that accompanied the IG post is simple and concise, but it sums up just how she felt: “We @tinamarieyan miss u terribly”.
Rico Yan will forever be remembered as a young, bedimpled actor who had accomplished so much in his career and in his personal life in such a short time. He was more than just an actor. He was also a successful entrepreneur, a spokesperson, and a youth role model.
