(From our Inbox) There was a report that allegedly a leaked copy of Vice Ganda’s movie “Beauty and the Bestie” a Metro Manila Film Festival 2015 entry of Star Cinema was being offered online.
A netizen claims a certain individual attempt to distribute a copy of the said movie to the public, offering it first hand for a review.
It is not confirmed whether the person requested for money in return. The concerned citizen added that the person allegedly is offering the pirated copy and claims that it came from a relative who is working for the MTRCB.
The person involved also said on a Twitter account that it can be shared via a messaging application.
According to him, the relative wants only a comment or review of the film.
If this alleged leak copy is true, the individual is in direct violation of the Philippine Republic Act 10088, or the “Anti-Camcording Act of 2010”, if found guilty, he or she can be fined and imprisoned with a minimum of 6 months to a year.
Piracy of movies, dvd’s and streaming portals have been resorted to as a convenient but illegal way to fill up the hunger of the fast growing sector for Filipino content in their entertainment, at the expense of damaging or shutting down the business of legitimate content owners such as Regal Films, VIVA entertainment and many others.
It is a common fact that pirated copies , online videos have reached an estimate viewers more than 60,000 per movie which is showing currently or at the same time in the Philippines. A freshly released theater movie has a one month window time after its DVD release and additionally, before it reaches online streaming . Such unauthorized movie copies, distribution, or online sites that shows the movies at the same time as their theatrical release dates are those considered running pirate copies and sites.
Such illegal activities like this are destroying the local movie and entertainment business and industry. As a citizen of this country , we should also do our part in order to help and to stop once and for all this illegal industry.
