The mother of Angelica Jane Yap a.k.a. Pastillas Girl was shot last Sunday by a gunman who remains unknown and is still at large. The incident shocked a lot of people, especially since Maria Theresa “Teteng” Hernandez, Pastillas Girl’s mother, just appeared a few months ago to defend her daughter on “It’s Showtime” amid criticisms from women’s groups.
A CCTV clip of the actual incident, showing the gunman shooting Teteng on the head, had become viral online. She died at around 12:41 AM on Monday at the Chinese General Hospital.
In a video clip shown on “Tonight with Boy Abunda”, Angelica said that she first heard the news about her mom while she was shooting a music video. Her sibling texted her that their mother was already brain dead, but her heart was still beating.
Yap said she was still able to talk to her mom and knew that her mother still heard and understood her during those moments. Angelica said she told her mom that she loves her and said “Sorry” to her.
To seek justice for her death, Angelica formally filed a complaint and submitted evidence to the National Bureau of Investigation or NBI. She told the press that she handed the cellphone of her late mother as evidence. The phone contains the death threats which were reported days earlier by the press. Angelica said the threats were more along the line of “papatayin kita and yung pamilya mo” (I will kill you and your family).
Danilito Lalusis, the head agent of NBI Death Investigation Division said it is too early to say that the motive for the crime is indeed a love triangle. That possibility has been laid out in earlier reports. Lalusis said they are closely coordinating with the Caloocan police for the investigation.
