Last December 13th, fans were all glued to their tv screens as the AlDub love team appeared on several shows only a few hours apart. But what AlDub fans didn’t dare miss was “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho” show interview with both Maine Mendoza (aka Yaya Dub) and Alden Richards.
Before Alden came onscreen, Jessica Soho had a lengthy one-on-one interview with Maine. A lot of the questions focused on Maine’s secret dream to become a movie star and her perceptions about herself prior to her becoming a phenomenal star.
Then, the KMJS host asked Maine what she thinks about the assumption that she and Alden are now the new “King and Queen of television commercials” in the country.
Maine said that she is surprised, herself, with the numerous endorsements coming her way. “Sobrang nabigla din po ako, kasi sunod-sunod sya e.” (I was so surprised, they came in one after the other.)
The country’s ‘Queen of Dubsmash’ said she is amazed because it seems like she has a shooting for an endorsement every week. She is not complaining though. Maine said she’s happy because these are all blessings.
The AlDub love team first appeared as endorsers in a McDonald’s TVC, then this was followed by a string of commercials that sometimes included the lolas from ‘KalyeSerye’. Take the case of the O+ endorsement with Wally Bayola as Lola Nidora, and also the TVC of Coca-Cola. Maine appears in some advertisements without Alden, and vice-versa.
The effectiveness of the AlDub love team as product ambassadors has been featured in Bloomberg and BBC. Needless to say, advertisers have attested to the increase in sales of their products, following the endorsement of the AlDub love team or either of the two.
With around 15 tv commercials to date, and reportedly more in the pipeline, Maine and Alden rightfully deserve to be called the reigning “King and Queen of TVCs”, whether they like it or not.
