Asia’s Pop Sweetheart Julie Anne San Jose’s video belting out Sia’s hit song, “Titanium” in the middle of New York Times Square was featured on ellentube.com, a video sharing site of Ellen DeGeneres.
She was hitting all the right notes while two men costumed as Spiderman and Thor were dancing and trying to sing beside her. Would you believe she was using Thor’s hammer as a microphone?
The two (2) minute video was uploaded December 3 by John Mark Legacion and was titled, “Singing Titanium in the middle of New York Times Square”. But the original video actually dates way back May, 2015 and was more than 9 minutes long.
It explains what happened behind that clip.
Julie Anne was strolling around New York with her friends when she was dared to sing in the middle of Times Square. She was hesitant at first, but would Julie Anne, a singer by profession and a hitmaker in the Philippines shirk from such challenge? You must be kidding!
So Julie accepted the challenge and chose to sing “Titanium” over other songs suggested by her companions. She also asked Thor and Spiderman to be with her when she sings and that’s when she borrowed Thor’s hammer for her microphone.
With a voice like that, it’s no surprise a small crowd gathered around her and started recording her impromptu Times Square performance on their devices. They broke into an applause when she sang the last note.
Despite being a seasoned performer, Julie Anne seemed embarassed by what she did. She said, “You wanna see my face right now? This is the I wanna hide behind the bushes”. Then she said to the camera, “I hope you enjoyed that performance. Sobrang nahihiya ako, Oh My God!”
Julie Anne shouldn’t really be ashamed. She can perform anywhere, whether on the street or on stage and people would always be wowed by her voice. That kind of talent is world class, so the venue doesn’t really matter. And to the credit of Julie Anne, she sang as if she was onstage, showcasing her professionalism even in a spur-of -the moment performance. Hats off to My Japs, she’s a real trouper!
