Last night in Metro Manila Film Festival held at KIA Theater in Araneta Center Cubao, Erik Matti’s “Honor Thy Father” won the ‘Best Original Theme Song’ sung by Armi Millare.
The song is not original and thus the first version of the song was sung by Tessy Alfonso also known as “Sampaguita” as her stage name way back in 1970, here’s the link of the Youtube copy of ‘Tao’ by Sampaguita.

If this is a result of not thorough practice of the jurors as well as the Metro Manila Film Festival Committee then this will give us a doubt that the winners that were announced last night during the event is not thoroughly deliberate henceforth, MMFF committee is now losing its credibility to judge and give critics on the film entries every year.
Otherwise, it only shows that by giving the award of ‘Best Original Theme Song’ to “Honor Thy Father” is an action of guilt by MMFF committee for disqualifying the movie for the ‘Best Picture’ category.
Until now there are no response from MMFF committee on this issue, the award might have been given to another movie that really deserves the title. “Honor Thy Father” casts and staff are not responsible for this human mistake and not oblige to clear this issue.
In the first place MMFF committee should have done their part very well because once the awards are given it cannot be return anymore or else it would be another “Steve Harvey’s human mistake” happened in Miss Universe awarding night.
