The 41st Metro Manila Film Festival 2015 was just concluded, Direk Eric Matti won the Best Festival Director Award for the movie “Honor Thy Father,” but he refused to receive it.
Direk Matti was ‘no show’ in the ‘Gabi ng Parangal’. Someone read his grievances vs MMFF. Part of it reads as follows “… am so disappointed with MMFF, from the way you choose the movies, the way you let theaters owners treat the small time producers… for a diehard movie fan like me, I miss the MMFF that I used to admire and respect…”
Here’s the complete message read by his representative.
And later he tweeted the following messages in his account :
According to Matti, there is an allegedly ticket swapping and cheating in the way they conduct the film fest awarding. It looks like that everything was set-up already.
Could it be that Direk Matti’s disappointment was largely due to the disqualification of “Honor Thy Father” from the Best Picture category due to violation of MMFF rules specifically when they joined the ‘Cinema One Originals Festival’ which Matti claims that MMFF previously knew about it.
This #MMFF2015 scandal could be the reason that the next MMFF festival will not be successful and less producers will participate?
Does MMFF members should ignore Matti’s sentiments? Let’s see what will happened next?
