A lot of us reacted differently after watching the Alma Moreno interview of Karen Davila. Some laughed and belittled Alma questioning her ability to be a senator of the Philippines, others shrugged it off like as just a waste of time and there were also those who thought Karen Davila’s way of interviewing her was uncalled for.
I for one has mixed emotions when it comes to my feelings for what transpired on the interview. I don’t agree on how Karen Davila conducted the interview and how she reacted everytime Alma answers but at the same time I think Alma Moreno is not ready yet for the Senate. She was the first female National President of the Philippine Councilors League (PCL), we give her that but then again Senate is a different ballgame altogether.
Nevertheless, Karen Davila should have shown her more respect by making Alma more comfortable and not how she have treated her during the interview.
I read an article of Ms. Dolly Carvajal in Inquirer.net about how Vandolph felt about the incident. As expected from any loving son or daughter , he defended his mom accordingly. Vandolph told Ms. Dolly Carvajal his sentiments on how Karen interviewed her mom differently compared to other interviews she has done in the past. He also reiterated that Karen Davila should not choose whom to respect and should treat her guests equally.
Vandolph felt her mom was humiliated and disrespected. In his mom’s defense, he proudly mentioned about how her mom as a politician of action and not just words.
As a daughter, I know exactly how Vandolph feels … If I were on his shoes, my reaction could have been worst. I applaud Vandolph for empathizing with her mom.
According to Karen Davila, she was just doing her job but I completely agree with Ms. Dolly Carvajal, as a TV host it is also her job to make their guests feel as comfortable as possible. Also the fact that knowing Alma’s weakness with the English language, she could have just done the interview in Filipino.
To Vandolph, I am sorry for what happened to your mom. You are right, she deserves to be treated better.
