The Popstar Royalty, Sarah Geronimo used to endorse politicians during the past elections. But now, she said she will not endorse any political candidate this coming 2016 elections.
In the past, Sarah endorsed the tandem of Manny Villar and Loren Legarda for the 2010 presidential elections and the senatorial bids of Ed Angara in 2007 and Sonny Angara in 2013.
What has changed since then? Why is Sarah Geronimo now non-committal when it comes to political endorsements for the 2016 elections?
According to Pep. ph, Sarah said she has learned a lot of lessons during that time when she was into endorsing political candidates.
She made it clear, however, that whatever contribution she made as an endorser before, was heartfelt. She believes she did not make a mistake, but said endorsements should be taken seriously. It’s no joke to endorse someone.
Sarah said, “the next time na mag-e-endorse ako para sa isang running politician, kailangan bukas na ang isip ko sa mundo ng politics.” (the next time i endorse a running politician, my mind needs to be open to the world of politics.) She added, “Basta yon, dapat naniniwala ako nang totoo sa iniendorso ko.” (I should truly believe who I am endorsing).
She asks other celebrities to think carefully about political endorsements. They should know as much as they can about the candidate or advocacy that they are asked to endorse for.
Sarah is one of the few celebrities who have said they will not endorse any political candidate in the coming 2016 polls. Among the most prominent are Alden Richards and Maine “Yaya Dub” Mendoza more commonly known as the AlDub love team, who, as early as September had been forbidden by the Eat Bulaga bosses from campaigning for any political candidate.
