The Philippines only managed to get two nominations for the Asian TV Awards this year, and both of those nominations come from GMA Network.
Nominated for Best Game or Quiz Programme is Celebrity Bluff, a GMA Network game show hosted by Eugene Domingo with noted comedians Jose Manalo, Boobay, and Isko Salvador as co-hosts and celebrity bluffers.
Celebrity Bluff will be competing against “Crazy Magic” of China, “Berpacu Dalam Melodi” of Indonesia, and “The Genius Game” of Korea. Thailand has 4 nominees for the same category namely, “Pritsana Fah Laep (Lightning Quiz)”, “Horo Game” , “The Money Drop Thailand” and “Game-Jak-Geng (The Car Jackpot Game).
The other nominee from the Philippines is Michael V., for the category “Best Comedy Performance by an Actor/Actress”. Michael V. will have to contend against noted comedians in the region like Ivana Wong of Hong Kong and Cyrus Broacha of India. The 5 other nominees for the category all come from Singapore including Michelle Tay, Yang Hao Yu, Chu Mi-Mi, Chinniah Veeraraghavan and Duan Wei-Ming.
Michael V is nominated for his performance in “Pepito Manaloto”, where he co-stars with Manilyn Reynes.
It is not the first time that Michael V. has been recognized by the Asian TV Awards. He has been nominated for Bubble Gang before and won for three consecutive years, 2004, 2005 and 2006 for Best Comedy Performance by an Actor.
The country’s number of nominees for the 2015 Asian TV Awards is very few compared to the previous years. In 2012, the Philippines had 13 nominations while in 2013, there were 9 nominations. Last year, the country had a total of 8 nominations.
Isn’t it sad that we only got two nominations this time?
The awarding ceremony for the Asian TV Awards will be on December 2 to 3 at Suntec Singapore. Winners will be determined by a panel of more than 60 judges from across the region.
Here’s wishing the best of luck to Michael V. and Celebrity Bluff for the 20th Asian TV Awards!
