For the first three quarters of 2015, GMA network’s revenues increased by 16 percent compared to the same period last year. Revenues went up from P8.9 billion to 10.3 billion.
For the third quarter alone, the network booked a net income of P706 million, compared to P422 million in 2014. That translates to a 66 per cent increase in profits, which is something that made the network executives really happy.
The network attributes the increase to the newfound strength of its daytime programming. The network said that it gained a 37.4 per cent share amongst total household audience during daytime. Compare that to 34.9 per cent of rival network ABS-CBN, based on data from AGB Nielsen.
Though GMA is not the only source of income for the network, it provided P8.76 billion of total airtime revenues. That represents roughly 85 per cent of the total revenues from January to September this year.
COO Lizelle Maralag said at a press conference that the revenues were volume-driven. She added that they were able to close deals with advertisers, which made up for the bulk of it.
Aside from the AlDub phenomenon bringing back audiences to the network, GMA executives also credit the new programs of GMA7 for the surge of its airtime revenues.
Profits climbed up by 80 per cent to P1.8 billion in the first nine months of the year compared to 1.001B last year.
The network aims to have P2 billion profits for this year. The very strong nine-month performance indicates that they will easily breach that target at the end of 2015. | Data Source: GMA News Online
