Just last September 26, 20125 the popular ABS-CBN noontime program “It’s Showtime” celebrated their 6th year anniversary at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum dubbed as ANIMversary. The spectacular anniversary celebration featured the biggest and the hottest ABS-CBN stars.
For over six years “It’s Showtime” managed to provide good entertainment through popular segments that made it big in terms of TV ratings besting the rival noontime show of TAPE Inc. “Eat Bulaga.”
Followers and viewers can easily recall those amazing portions or segments where “It’s Showtime” won over “Eat Bulaga” all throughout its existence in television.
Today we have all the 6 reasons to celebrate “It’s Showtime” 6th anniversary by recalling the top 6 segments of this program and ponder how “It’s Showtime” won over “Eat Bulaga.”
1. That’s My Tomboy
It’s one of the most controversial and yet most followed program segment of It’s Showtime that even the rival noontime show of TAPE Inc. had to come up with a similar sounding segment called “That’s My Tambay”, for the obvious reason that “It’s Showtime” won over “Eat Bulaga.”
This segment was created to serve as a platform for “tomboys” or lesbian in the Philippines wherein tomboy (lesbian) crossdresser contenders can show off their talent and personality.
2. Kalokalike
The concept of this talent show is very engaging to the viewers where contestants have to impersonate a well-known local or foreign celebrity. The introduction of this segment has once again crushed the rival TV show.
Kalokalike became viral on social media with soaring rating. When Ultimate Kalokalike Showdown was presented on June 2, 2013 “It’s Showtime” won over “Eat Bulaga” once again with a whooping TV rating of 26.8% while the TAPE Inc. produced noon time show only got 13.2%.
3. I am Pogay
This segment featured handsome gay men which instantly became a hit not only with the LGBT community but also with the viewing public. “I am Pogay” which coined the two words “pogi” (handsome) and gay, provided a platform for straight looking gay Pinoy men wherein they can voice out their sentiments, wit and show off their talents.
