The afternoon popular noon time program of ABS-CBN network “It’s Showtime” has decried Gabriela’s complaint which was filed through Movie and Television Review and Classification Board or MTRCB.
Gabriela is the acronym or abbreviation of “General Assembly Binding Women for Reforms, Integrity, Equality, Leadership, and Action” which primary advocacy is to uplift women’s rights and issues.
Gabriela filed a complaint about the so-called “It’s Showtime” Pastillas Girl pimping issue which places Angelica Jane Yap (aka Pastillas Girl) in a bad light.
A statement was released last Thursday October 8 by It’s Showtime stating that the said complaint is -“not only unfair and irresponsible, but also hurtful and offensive to women like Angelica who has done nothing wrong but to share her story with the hope of getting another shot at love.” And went on in saying that- “The intent of the show is to help Angelica in her journey to love and acceptance after recovering from a failed relationship. After hearing Pastillas Girl’s story, a member of the studio audience named Topher declared his intent in getting to know her.”
Pastillas Girl follower Jess traveled all the way from Bacolod to the ABS-CBN studio just to see and get to know her. Richard and Evan also went out of their comfort zones and visited Angelica for a chance of meeting her personally.
The “Nasaan Ka, Mr. Pastillas?” segment has positive values showing honesty, forgiveness and moving on towards new possibilities. This “It’s Showtime” portion has stirred positive reactions from Pastillas Girl fans and opened chances for Angelica to meet new friends.
Furthermore ABS-CBN It’s Showtime answering to Pastillas Girl pimping issue by Gabriela stated that- “All throughout, Angelica has the freedom of choice to do and reveal what she wants. She was never forced to do anything in the segment without her full consent. To protect her, the show also screens her admirers before making them appear in the show to check their intentions.”
“Aside from that, ‘It’s Showtime’ presents Angelica’s story in such a way that the public understands her through her one-on-one interviews with Vice about her experiences, by bringing out Enzo and Karen, and by providing her the opportunity to voice out her own insights about love and life so she will not be prejudged based on her social media accounts and her viral video.”
“…For people to suggest that ‘the show is pimping Pastillas Girl’ is not only unfair and irresponsible, but also hurtful and offensive to women like Angelica who has done nothing wrong but to share her story with the hope of getting another shot at love.
“Pastillas Girl may not have a perfect past. But she is now on her journey to finding a second chance at life. It’s more than just finding a new love.”
On October 1, 2015, MTRCB called the attention of “It’s Showtime” and scheduled a meeting with few ABS-CBN executives to have an opportunity to air their side of the story, provide public feedback and to properly respond to the complaint of Gabriela.
