As the media hype on Eat Bulaga’s Kalyeserye particularly on the AlDub loveteam phenomenon escalates to beyond one’s imagination on the other hand Philippine politics is also very much alive in today’s media.
The campaign season is just around the corner and many celebrities are being lured into easy money making stints through way of politics. We all know that there are many celebrities both popular and not so popular are tapping into the opportunity of earning additional big income by simply endorsing politicians.
Traditionally in the Philippines, it is only usual to see popular actors and actresses endorsing and eventually campaigning for politicians for reasons of money, power and connections. But what about AlDub?
In several articles this September, Tito Sotto of “Eat Bulaga” reiterated that he will never use the popularity of AlDub for his own political interest. He also stated that “Eat Bulaga” is barring Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza in taking part in any campaigns or endorsement of politicians.
The said brave statement of Sen. Tito Sotto was issued on the very principle that people would be disappointed if Alden and Maine got involved in politics. This interview with Tito Sen took place last September 8, 2015. But what about Alden Richards endorsing politicians?
On a Facebook status update dated September 10, 2015, a photo of Alden Richards with Mayor Guia Gomez of San Juan already surfaced and was posted on several Facebook group pages of San Juan City.
Just right after the live telecast of Kapuso’s “Eat Bulaga” where Alden Richards is a popular star, the other half of AlDub went on to visit the former love interest of ex-president Erap Estrada who is the current mayor of San Juan at the mayor’s office.
The photo of Guia Gomez with Alden Richards was posted on the official San Juan mayor’s FB account timeline with hashtags #AlDubFever and #sanjuancity. The caption on the photo is “Thank you for visiting, Pambansang Bae, Alden!”
Rumors around the municipal office and around the city of San Juan circulated, that Mayor Guia Gomez requested Alden Richards to visit her and sent a helicopter to pick him up right after Eat Bulaga.
Recalling the interview with Tito Sotto on the involvement of AlDub in any political campaign or endorsement, he said that AlDub and Eat Bulaga will always be neutral. So the question still remains and can be a puzzle among AlDub fans and netizens everywhere – is Alden Richards endorsing politicians?
