Recently, ABS-CBN noontime show “It’s Showtime” has a segment called ‘Twitterserye’ wherein Angelica Jane Yap a.k.a ‘Pastillas Girl’ is hoping to find her new love affair after a heart-breaking event that happened to her and her ex-boyfriend. This is in contrast with the phenomenal love team AlDub of GMA Network, which garnered the attention of millions of TV viewers and social media users.
However, Pastillas Girl segment has been losing out when it comes to ratings. Many citizens criticize the show since that the hosts and staff is using Pastillas Girl in order to increase the ratings of the noontime show. With that, “It’s Showtime” is now facing a dire situation.
Joan May Salvador, the Secretary General of the women’s rights group ‘Gabriela’ commend Chairman Atty. Toto Villareal of Movie Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) to examine the allegations and complaints of the concerned citizens regarding the pimping of Pastillas Girl by the hosts and staff.
The executive producer of the “It’s Showtime”, Mark Rejano, also received the notice. Here’s the full transcript.
“We wish to inform you that we have been receiving complaints regarding exploitation of women in relation to your serye ‘Pastillas Girl’ since it aired this month in Showtime,” the letter read. “Concerned citizens wrote us and tagged us in their Twitter posts alleging that the show seems to be pimping the said Pastillas Girl to various interested men.”
“As an organization dealing with the protection and advancement of women’s rights, we cannot dismiss such complaints,” the letter continued. “We have been consistent in our statement that competition to sell the show and the ratings war should not be done at the expense of women.
“In the interest of fairness, we would like to give you an opportunity to respond to such allegations publicly.”
Though the appearance of Pastillas Girl give a bit of increase in the noontime show’s ratings, but the segment’s viewership still cannot surpass the numbers of the phenomenal love team AlDub of Eat Bulaga!.
