After failing the audition for ABS-CBN’s “Your Face Sounds Familiar”, Jaya is back where she belongs – on GMA 7 where she will play Corazon in the second local adaptation of the hit series “Marimar.”
“Expect laughter and (lots of) jokes. We hope viewers will watch ‘Marimar.’ It’s going to be exciting,” she said.
In the series, Corazon is Marimar’s sidekick who was first played by Manilyn Reynes. Jaya almost lost the role when her manager Carlo Orosa urged her to audition for a spot on “Your Face Sounds Familiar”, according to a Philstar report.
Although she has no exclusive contract with GMA 7, the sultry singer was warned by the latter that appearing on two networks was a bad idea. Still, Jaya went on and flunked the audition.
Rumor has it that Maristel Fernandez, Jaya’s former manager, helped the singer regain her role in “Marimar.” If not for Fernandez, sources said Asia’s Queen of Soul would have been out of the picture.
On her role as Corazon
Now that Jaya is back, GMA 7 said fans should watch out for her character that will be portrayed differently.
The new “Marimar” is top billed by Megan Young and Tom Rodriguez, and is directed by Dominic Zapata. The Sunday All Stars singer said she is excited to be working with Miss World 2013.
“I really need to research on the role and will ask Direk Dom what approach he wants for Corazon. I’m also excited to be with Megan,” Jaya said.
She admitted that the cast and crew have been putting a lot of effort into making the Mexican hit series even better. While location shooting is quite far, Jaya said she doesn’t mind it at all.
“It’s really demanding, but whether the location is near or far, we’re going to do our best. We want to do a fun show,” she concluded.
