GMA Network will be putting the axe soon on Sunday All Stars (SAS).
After being able to compete decently with its rival show ASAP 20 for the past few weeks. It seems like it’s still not enough to change the minds of the upper management.
After all, ratings are just numbers, but the failure to deliver in ad placements may be one of the reasons that GMA needs to consider to cut costs and still make profit from the time slot. The said show became the flagship program for the station especially because it showcases the talent of its new artists, especially in singing, dancing and hosting. This is where Kapuso stars are honed.
Sunday All Stars also became a venue for their talents to promote their upcoming shows. One of the staff even said: ”Kung kailan naman natatalo na namin ang katapat naming show (We’ve been waiting for the time that we’ll go head on with our rival show in the ratings game and now that we’re beating them, this happens.)”
Because of this, SAS noon-time slot will be replaced by an APT Entertainment-produced show. APT is currently owned by Tony Tuviera, responsible for producing films as well. This can also reap profits for the network. Eat Bulaga and Wowowin are also examples of shows which are being rented by TAPE Productions and Willie Revillame from GMA.
While it is assured that whatever will replace Sunday All Stars will be a hit, a lot of the staff of the said program will be left jobless, especially the dancers. Many new talents will also have less exposure now that the show will be off -air.
However, there are also rumors that SOP (Sobrang Okay, Pare) will be back on air, as hinted by Regine Velasquez in last week’s SAS episode.
