Some people hate them for overacting. Others think they’re trying hard to be cute and look beautiful. Whatever you say about them, however, there’s no denying the fact that the “Pabebe Girls” have become popular and are here to stay.
Ever since the term was coined last year in response to the viral video of a sad teen eating mamon (a popular Filipino sponge cake) in a mall in Cavite, the “Pabebe Girls” have taken social media sites by storm.
Their videos have been viewed by millions of people and at least three “Pabebe Girls” – Michelle Alfonso, Janet Ricabo, and Vhelpoe Garves – have crossed over to television at the invitation of comedian Vice Ganda who even recorded a song about them.
Owing to their popularity, “Pabebe Girls” copycats have mushroomed everywhere and even local celebrities have joined the bandwagon, creating their very own versions of these awfully cute ladies.
To show you what I mean, take a look at these hilarious celebrity “Pabebe” videos that I have compiled for your viewing pleasure. Watch them at your own risk and don’t blame me if you either die laughing or hate them more afterwards.
On Instagram, Kapuso actresses Alessandra De Rossi and Lovi Poe showed people what it’s like to be a “Pabebe Girl.” Two versions were made and this resulted in 5,240 and 7,149 likes respectively on Poe’s Instagram page.
Not to be outdone, Kapamilya stars Kim Chiu, Maja Salvador, and Alex Gonzaga did their thing during the July 5, 2015 episode of ASAP 20. They were joined by Internet sensation John Philipin Bughaw, also known as “Balang.”
Eat Bulaga’s Yaya Dub and Lola Nidora, portrayed by Maine Mendoza and comedian Wally Bayola, wowed viewers with their Dubsmash versions of “Pabebe Girls” on the noontime show’s segment, “Juan for All, All for Juan.” The said video got 3,128,036 views on Eat Bulaga’s Facebook page.
Can you imagine these guys as “Pabebe Girls”? RX 93.1’s The Morning Rush radio jocks Chico Garcia and Gino Quillamor have their abnoy version which received 2,556 likes and 551 comments on Instagram.
Lastly, the hosts of GMA News TV’s Taste Buddies, namely, model-actress Solenn Heussaff and Iya Villania-Arellano also did their own version of the “Pabebe Girls” while promoting their show. It has 29,200 likes on Heussaff’s Instagram page.
Indeed, for better or for worse, the “Pabebe Girls” have landed, so better take cover if you don’t want to be hit by this crazy fad.
