Kapuso actress Barbie Forteza said she is not comfortable tagging her as “Tween Queen” by GMA Network, according to pep.ph.
“Well, hindi ko naman kine-claim kasi ang gusto ko naman po talaga, maging aktres,” she shyly responded. (“Well, I’m not claiming it because what I want is to be an actress.”)
“I’m not after any title naman…Gusto ko makilala ako bilang aktres na hindi lang basta artista na seventeen-year-old na teen star, ganyan.” (“I’m not after any title. What I want is to be recognized as an actress, not just an [ordinary] 17-year old teen star.”)
Acting Awards
Barbie has won two awards for her best performance by an actress and supporting role. She was only 13 years old when she received her first major award as New Movie Actress of the Year in PMPC Star Awards for Movies last 2010 in the film Puntod.
Last year, she won Best Supporting Actress award in Cinemalaya for her role in Mariquina, where she also gets a nomination in Urian Awards this year.
With all these recognition, she promises to improve her craft even more. “[Ito yung nagsisilbing] inspirasyon ko na mas galingan pa sa lahat ng ginagawa ko,” she said. (“These [awards] serve as my inspiration to improve all the things that I’m doing [for acting].”)
Taking edgy roles
Also, she admitted that she wants to play an edgy role of being a transgender than a rape victim. “E, kasi parang normal siya, e. Kumbaga, walang challenge bilang tao. E, kapag transgender ka, kailangang baguhin mo ang buong pagkatao mo, ‘di po ba? Ayun.Or gusto ko mag-try ng siguro mga ibang dialect naman, ganyan.” (Because it’s just a normal [role], there’s no challenge as a person. [but] if you’re a transgender, you need to change your whole personality, right?. Or maybe, I want to try other dialects [for my role].”)
