There was a rumor that surfaced last week that Kapuso teen heartthrob Derrick Monasterio is transferring to ABS-CBN. It began when Monasterio’s camp received an inquiry about the expiration of his contract.
However, according to Nitz Miralles of Pilipino Star Ngayon, it seems that the Kapamilya network is not showing any interest yet since there is no offer of him getting into any show or TV series. So where did the conjecture come from?
First, Monasterio was kicked-out from ‘Half-Sisters’ after his character suddenly gone dead. People close to Monasterio are saying that the teen hunk is not satisfied with the roles provided to him by his mother network. Since January this year, he only appeared in ‘Karelasyon’ and ‘Magpakailanman’.
He maybe included in the Bench Family as an endorser via its #Love Local campaign that promotes local stuff, in April this year, there was nothing after that.
For five years in showbiz, Monasterio already made a mark on TV with his good looks and talent. He also proved that he is a lot better actor than other Kapuso teen stars when he was nominated in the award-winning body ENPRESS, won Best Male New TV Personality in 2011 PMPC Star Awards for TV, and was also awarded the German Moreno Youth Achievement Award in 2012 FAMAS awards.
Seeing a real talent being put to waste is frustrating. In October, his contract with GMA-7 will expire and he doesn’t know if he will be granted another contract anew. A dedicated actor like Derrick, he might consider signing to another network who will give him a chance to be a better actor. The Kapamilya network may just consider him, but not yet.
