First aired in 2000, “Pangako Sa’yo” changed the history of Philippine television not only as the first teleserye in the Philippines, but also the first-ever Pinoy teleserye to conquer and made waves around the world. It gained high popularity in more than 20 countries, including China, Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia. Cambodia Television Network (CTN) even bought its format from ABS-CBN in 2012 and created a localized version of the said TV series.
This year, Star Creatives Production decided to remake this highly-anticipated teleserye casting talented actors in the industry with the likes of Jodi Sta. Maria, Angelica Panganiban, Ian Veneracion, Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo.
The story revolves the love and the promise between a cook named Amor (Jodi Sta. Maria) and a young man who grew up in a wealthy family named Eduardo (Ian Veneracion). Due to Eduardo’s family being against the relationship, the young man was compelled to leave the woman he loves the most and married the woman his mother chose for him,–Claudia (Angelica Panganiban).
‘Pangako Sa’Yo’ will test the fate and love of Eduardo and Claudia’s son Angelo. Angelo will face the same fate as his father when he encounters and falls in love with a simple, young woman named Yna. How will a ‘vow’ change the lives of all the characters involved? Will their hearts fall out of love because of each other’s broken promises?
Lets know more about what to expect on this teleserye and how did actors accept the project and prepared to do the iconic roles:
Will the story be the same as the original?
“Well, the art is the same but accessibilities are now different eh. Marami kami dinagdag but the art is, yeah, the same. Kung bakit nila minahal ang Pangako Sa’yo nung una, it’s really because of maraming elemento but basically the story. So that is something more retaining although inakma namin sa sensibilidad ng makabagong panahon ngayon. Example, wala naman cellphone nuong panahon na yun, so ayun, we had to make certain adjustments.” – Olivia Lamasan
Portraying as Lia on the original ‘Pangako’, how was it that you (Jodi) is going to play as Amor now?
“Parang hindi lang din ako makapaniwala na sa original naging part ako ng Pangako Sa’Yo and now I’m doing a different character and you know, it’s such a blessing and privilege to be Amor Powers. Well, when it was first offered to me, nag-alangan ako kasi I was doing a different show then. And yung concern ko talaga is kung gagawin ko yung character baka hindi ko sya mabigyan ng justice. So, I really asked for time. (So what made you say yes?) When I was given time.
In preparation to her character, Jodi said,
“At first sobrang na-pressure ako, natakot.
Did Angelica said yes immediately after it was offered to her?
(tong mga to tawang-tawa). So, yun, nag- yes ako.
Is she excited for “banggaan and talakan” with Amor Powers?
What Ian Veneracion feels upon knowing he will be working with two, young and beautiful actresses?
“I just so thankful for this thing kasi it was such a great opportunity for many actor to have this role of Eduardo and nung una feeling ko ang laking bata naman saken ng dalwang to. Feeling ko may pagka-DOM na ata ako. Pero pagdating sa set, sobrang comfortable and I’m so proud to be part of it.”
The 2015 remake will be helmed by three of the country’s best directors—Rory Quintos, Dado Lumibao, and Olivia Lamasan. Showing on May 25, after Nathaniel on Primetime Bida.
