Cinco De Mayo was indeed a date to remember for all Filipinos. And if you missed it, you missed half the fun of your life. Why? The well-loved vocal group once again dominated the SM Mall of Asia.
As part of their 22nd anniversary, the Backstreet Boys brought the Filipino audience to the year 1993 when everyone was going crazy over Quit Playing Games (with my heart), I Want it That Way and Everybody (Backstreet’s Back).
When most boy band has been disbanded, these five vocals amazingly sustained to the business. They don’t seem to age especially when they started to dance and sing on stage. The charm of these guys never faded. True entertainer they are, they managed to win the heart of Filipinos when they started and that love never subsides.
Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson, AJ McLean, Brian Littrell and Howie Dorough, members of the Backstreet Boys, have a fair share of entertainment on stage. All of them have their own distinct personalities but only have one goal – making sure that everyone is having the best time of their life. Especially when they set rules during the concert. Which according to Nick is not difficult. He preceded, “Rule #1, we want you to go crazy. And rule #2, we want you to act like you’re 15 years old. I still am 15 years old, so why don’t you?” It a rushed of nostalgia in an instant. Everyone was like a mirage that was transformed into giddy-like self.
Another highlight of the evening was, when they paid respect to fellow Filipinos who they admired most. Nick even jokingly said that they are demanding rematch (PacMay) and admitted that they are huge fan of Manny Pacquaio. They also imitated the way Arnel Pineda (Journey Band) belted out “Don’t Stop Believing”. Howie shared his personal attachment to Filipinos. His Godmother is a Filipina and he once got a chance to sing with Sarah Geronimo.
If we could not let the night end, we will. But after 22 songs, what more can we ask for? They gave us everything we wished for to see in a concert and they never fail us. But they promise to comeback with new set of songs from their newest album to be release soon and a movie to commemorate their experience in the industry. Backstreet’s back, alright?
