The Irish band had rocked Manila for the 3rd time since 2011 at their concert last Friday, April 17. They made everyone feel that it was the first time. Everyone was singing with them, everyone was jumping up and down, everyone was having a good time. You won’t even think much about every single cent you pay or how much you saved just to see this trio perform live. Everyone deserves to live a moment with Danny O’Donoghue, Mark Sheehan and Glen Power, or most popularly known as – THE SCRIPT.
With two opening acts, Colton Avery and the Silent Sanctuary warmed up the audience with their relatable songs. (I commend Midas Promotions on this one because they started on time, one thing Filipinos love about international concerts). Then when people see the green flags, louder cheers echoed throughout the arena. Meaning parade is about to start, and The Script is about to hit the stage. “Paint The Town Green” blasted from the music box as their opening song.
Part of the songs from their 4th album, No Sound Without Music, highlights their heartaches and personal triumphs. What so surprising is that people jived well on their songs. Almost everybody was singing with them especially when they sang “Breakeven,” “Superheroes,” “If You Could See Me Now,” “Man on Wire,“ and “Hall of Fame.” As an additional tease to the crowd, Danny and Mark showed their support to Manny Pacquiao when they showed off a pair of boxing gloves signed by our Pambansang Kamao. Funny, weren’t they?
Another highlight of the evening was when they down to their 10th song, “Nothing”. Danny let an audience call an ex-boyfriend/girlfriend then handed the phone to him. Man, I cannot imagine what was the person on the receiving end felt. Danny was singing the lines, “Am I better off dead? Am I better off a quitter? They say I’m better off now than I ever was with her,” over the phone might be the sweetest-bitter message I can live for the moment, yes?
When everyone wants to take a closer look at him, Danny didn’t fail the crowd. They did their phenomenal song, “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved,” on the tiny stage in the middle of the Patron and VIP section. Not only that, but also Danny also surprised the audience in the lower box area when he suddenly appeared there singing “You Won’t Feel A Thing.” Prior to that, Danny and Mark jokingly said that bouncers were kind of “pain in the ass” by hindering some audiences come near them to have a good time. Danny may have been collaboratively attacked, but you will see it to Danny’s face that he enjoyed being in the crowd.
The Script promised that they would be back in two years time for more songs to share. Goodbye is the hardest word to say, but The Script certainly left a joyous and wonderful experience to the Filipinos. For sure, those who watched the concert will look forward to their 4th concert in Manila bringing more family members and friend to experience the same thing as what they did that magical night. As what of their song says, “The Energy Never Dies.”
