The most painful feeling is seeing our family member ill. Any parent or husband would wish to take all the pain just to spare his loved ones from their suffering. One family member getting sick is already a big challenge, what more if two of them are victims. Veteran actor Christopher De Leon is an example of this struggle. After keeping his silent about the health status of his wife and son, he now speaks up about it. Ready to share what they had gone through and what more could happen.
August 2014, Christopher’s son Miguel De Leon (San Francisco-based), was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Two months after, his wife, actress Sandy Andolong had a kidney problem. Christopher was flying to and back from San Francisco to attend son’s medication. On the other hand, Sandy was doing great as well with her ailment. She even worked as mainstay in Kapamilya show Home Sweetie Home until we didn’t see her anymore.
Last Thursday, Christopher’s daughter Mariel De Leon accompanied his daughter to Viva Artist Center to sign a contract as an artist. That’s where he shared most of their struggles as a family right now. Sandy had a kidney transplant last month, and that’s why she took a vacation from Home Sweetie Home. He said Sandy is recovering right now and needs to get quarantined with four (4) months rest before going back to work. According to Christopher, Sandy have her own room with a private nurse, television and air-purifier to avoid the risk of infection. For now, he can only give her a kiss on the forehead.
In this hard times in their life, Christopher seems to be calm but he admitted that he sometimes resent the situation. “Overwhelming yung situation. Minsan ‘pag mag-isa ako, talagang parang lumalaki yung ulo ko. Wala, talagang pananampalataya lang talaga at kapit-tuko sa Panginoon. And, of course, kahit naman minsan may mga talagang malapit na sa Kanya binibigyan pa ng trials sa kanya. Hindi naman ako biglang aatras na lang sa pagsubok na ito. I have to face everything. I have to hold the bull by its horn. So, ang Diyos na lang ang nagbibigay sa akin ng lakas. The Lord is always faithful. Yung trust ko na lang sa Kanya ang nangingiral,” Christopher shared.
