Who will forget about the simple story of Cinderella? I knew it since when I was a little girl about the plot of this Disney film.
Ella, who has lost her lovely mother agreed upon his father’s request to begin a new family. Cutting the union easily, her father was died leaving lonely Ella with her two daunting stepsisters and cruel stepmother.
Expecting she will get sympathy with ladies, the truth strucked her, it was the start of her misery. She was treated like an ordinary servant not even part of the family. Like every other protagonists, she remained kind and considerate. As her mother would always tell, “Have courage and be kind”.
I would give it a skeptical look for Drizella and Anastasia (two daughters) and their short slipped appearance in the movie. Their role in other theater plays and even other movies got a big deal of sickening the princess, making her suffer until she couldn’t get enough. Thus, creating an impression that Cate Blanchett (stepmother) took the pedal in wracking up her life in this film. Felt like she has given full authority to pour boling hot water to Ella.
Getting every errands at home, Ella then felt not capable of handling stress with her ruthless family, she rode horseback to the woods where she saw an apprentice, concealing as a prince. Their first ever meet up. Which I think is lovely indeed.
Richard Madden (Prince) and Lily James (Ella) first sight was impeccable. An ordinary scene that proved creative staff made a good move in pairing the two. Their sweet-sticking eyes rolling to each other makes me flattered. It’s something magical that all fairytales promise. I bet you know it too.
By the time the prince’s father condition got worse, he then implied his son to look for a lady to marry adding that he should then marry no one but a princess. The prince knows exactly who his heart desires. Not too long, her father accepted his son’s request to marry a girl whom he loves not because of power and then invitation was carried to any commoner and elite unmarried young ladies to join in the grand ball.
Hearing the news from the market place, Ella run into her matron to announce the good news and calling immediately the sewer to make 3 gowns. 1 for matron and 2 for her daughters which left her a decision to make her own.
The time came when Ella presented her dress to the ladies, abruptly waiting to come with them at the ball, but wicked ladies gave no mercy on her dress, her mother’s which she sewed every sleepless nights now bacame pink rags. Threatened her not to come with them, she looked bewildered to remain kind with such hypocrite treatment.
Unforgiving scenario did not last as we know her fairy god mother, who was disgusing as a helpless old mendicant, came into rescue. Making pumpkin turned into jeweled coach, goose as carriage driver, lizards as guards, mice as the horsedrawn bucket, ragged dress became blue balloon dress, untidy shoes bacame a pair of glass slippers, she then left a final say to leave the kingdom before midnight as all will switch into what they truly are.
Cinderella’s grand entrance left attendees speechless, especially the prince. Seeing a great couple dancing waltz, it put the audience beyond shock and awe.
The hours passed like minutes. She cut the conversation with the prince, rushed down the steps, accidentally left one of her slippers, jumped into her coach, and was gone.
And truly was everything changed back into its original form. Except the glass slippers? How come? Hmm, one thing to be questioned about. Why is it Disney?
Next day, a proclamation was announced that the prince will find the owner of the slipper and will marry her if she said yes. Every princesses and duchesses had tried their luck, but no one could fit into it. They began to look over to each house in the kingdom.
At last, they came into the house where stepsisters were frowning excitedly. They shoved, pushed, squeezed every efforts they can, but slipper could not fit.
Cinderella was locked in the attic and hopelessly singing a song and unexpecting the prince would find him. But through the help of her rodents’ friends, they got her voice free of reaching the ground, letting the prince heard it.
It was now Cinderella’s attempt to try. Prince lifted the slipper to her foot. It fit beautifully.
Then the prince took her hands, led off to the palace, where they were married and lived happily ever after.
Entirely, movie has its own taste and attack. In a medieval European setting, Keneth Branagh meticulous fan fare got me blowing upside down. Though it premiered a new flavor to adjust fittingly into a suitable situation, I find it lacking to crave more what difference it could offer or what trail of story will it leave behind. It’s just plainly artful as it was used to be. Such a challenge to the next production who will continue Cinderella tale in the next level.
