It is so easy to dismiss Star Cinema’s “Crazy Beautiful You” as a romcom that’s all cheese and just hefty servings of kilig. That’s the feeling you get after watching the movie trailer. Well, for most part it is but the movie is much more than that.
What won me over with this romcom are those random moments scattered all over the film that made me smile and these are not necessarily those sequences wherein the flick makes an effort to induce kilig to its viewers.
Kathniel shows irresistible chemistry. You have a reliable supporting cast (Lorna Tolentino is great in the film) and Inigo Pascual has acting chops that cannot be ignored. He is very promising!
“Crazy Beautiful You” is not without faults. I find some of the scenes overly dramatic. The film is quite long and can definitely make use of some edits. I was looking for a better execution of the ending since the type of ending they have settled with, I have seen them countless times in Star Cinema movies.
“Tadhana” had elevated my standards when it comes to the genre. “She’s Dating a Gangster” was memorable and definitely a tough act to follow. “Crazy Beautiful You” however can stand on its own as a good romcom.
