ABS-CBN current affairs program “Tapatan Ni Tunying” features this Thursday (January 8) inspiring stories of two ordinary citizens who have dedicated their lives to spreading the good message of the Catholic faith, in time for the forthcoming arrival of Pope Francis in the Philippines.
Ramon Rodriguez, who has been chosen to serve as a lay minister in Pope Francis’ mass in Luneta, reveals how his faith was restored after living a life of sin and addiction.
Rodriguez once suffered an injury that left his one eye blind. He believes that his prayers to Saint Padre Pio and his renewed faith restored his eyesight.
“I caressed his face. I even kissed him. ‘Padre Pio, thank you so much. You stood by your promise. My eyesight is clear now. I will fulfill my promise to you,” says Rodriguez. After repenting for his sins, Ramon dedicated his life to the church.
On the other hand, Rodriguez expresses his admiration to Pope Francis. “As a Catholic, it is a remarkable experience to have him here in our country. He is a brave pope. I think we need a pope like him,” he says.
Meanwhile, Dave de la Cruz, a custodian of relics and mementos of different saints and popes, reminds Filipinos of the real purpose of the Papal visit next week.
“It is important to remember that the pope is next to Christ. He is the vicar of Christ. So his arrival means that he is bringing Christ with him. We should be excited about it,” de la Cruz explains.
