Broadcast journalist Karen Davila finds out how Gloria De Guzman, one of the best shoemakers in Marikina and the owner of “Majiks Shoes,” was able to build her business from scratch tomorrow (Nov 14) in “My Puhunan.”
Gloria has dedicated her time and life to manufacturing shoes and bags for four decades now. But before she rose as one of the most renowned shoemakers in the Shoe Capital of the Philippines, she had lived a life of poverty and even started working when she was just eight years old.
To earn more money, she and her husband loaned P700 to produce and sell house slippers. When the products sold out, they started making espadrilles. Even if she wasn’t an expert in shoemaking, she persevered to hone her craft and market their products.
And due to her dedication, her business has kept up with bigger firms that sell shoes that are “made in China.”
