Broadcast journalist Karen Davila shares the secret to success of Edwin Vergara, also known as Mang Tootz, the owner of one of the most famous eateries among students in Manila’s University Belt this Wednesday (Nov 5) in “My Puhunan.”
“Mang Tootz Food House,” located along P. Noval Street beside the University of Santo Tomas, is known for its dishes that are not expected of a typical carindera, such as Korean barbecue, breaded chicken, kebab, and its famous special turon, the banana rhuma.
Mang Tootz’ concept for his eatery came about due to his experience working as a cook at hotels and cruise ships abroad. But it hasn’t always been sunshine and rainbows for Mang Tootz, because prior to putting up his now popular food house, he put up a ‘tapsilogan’ that closed just a month after it opened.
