DZMM Radyo Patrol Sais Trenta bagged awards at the prestigious Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) Prizes 2014 and the Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA) held recently.
ABS-CBN’s flagship radio station won in the News Reporting category at the ABU Prizes for its coverage of super typhoon Yolanda from November 8 to 16 in 2013, beating radio stations from New Zealand, China, and Iran.
DZMM preempted its regular programming for a week to deliver the latest information on the impact of Yolanda and give public service to the typhoon victims in the Visayas.
The anchors and Radyo Patrol reporters of DZMM joined forces to gather and bring the most significant developments in Tacloban and other parts of Leyte and Samar that were greatly devastated by Yolanda, despite the dangers they encountered and difficulties in communications.
The station also provided comprehensive reports on government actions on the calamity, as well as regular updates from PAGASA and different government agencies in order to send help to the victims.
In the last two years, DZMM was named a finalist in the said category at the ABU Prizes. In 2007, its program Radyo Patrol Balita Alas Onse Y Media(now Radyo Patrol Alas Dose) bagged the award for the category Radio News for its coverage of Typhoon Reming.
Mega Manila’s number one AM radio station also reaped awards at the CMMA. DZMM program “Pasada Sais Trenta” anchored by Karen Davila and Vic Lima was named Best News Commentary Program, while “DZMM Red Alert,” anchored by Atom Araullo, Prof. Mahar Lagmay, and Doc. Ted Esguerra, which tackles emergency preparedness, hazards and offers safety tips to its listeners, was awarded Best Educational Program. Louie Tabing’s “Sa Kabukiran,” meanwhile, received a special citation in the Best Educational Program category.
