Kapatid prime actor and Amazing Race Philippines host/race master Derek Ramsay led the TV5 visit in typhoon-hit areas in Eastern Visayas on the anniversary of the tragic Yolanda onslaught last November 8.
In an interview with InterAksyon.com, Derek Ramsay shared how he was personally awed by the strength of Yolanda survivors, especially how they remain resilient despite what they wenth through. A year after super typhoon Yolanda wreaked havoc in the country, a lot of people are undeniably still in need of assistance in order for them to get their lives back in order. But things are looking up according to the Kapatid actor.
“They see you and they’re smiling. They see you and it’s like Christmas” said Derek.
Ramsay, along with fellow Kapatid stars Akihiro Blanco, Nicole Estrada and Empoy Marquez distributed 300 rice buckets from Alagang Kapatid Foundation, PLDT-Smart Foundation, One Meralco Foundation and Philex Mining. They also gave school kits to grade school students in Pawing and Candahug Elementary Schools. Alagang Kapatid also gave away pedicabs, barbeque and burger stands, and some livestock to residents of Palo, Leyte as part of the foundation’s livelihood rehabilitation efforts to revive the local economy.
His trip to the region, the fourth time since the super typhoon struck the country, also gave Derek a lesson on gratitude for what he has.
“It got me thinking: bakit ko pa prinoproblema ang mga problema sa buhay ko na napakaliit?” he asked.
Derek also urged his fellow stars to dedicate some of their time to reach out to fellow Kapatids in the regions. “Let’s use our influence to make sure Yolanda is not forgotten. They still need our help.”
